Luhrmann comes the new big screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's

visual interpretation of the classic story, bringing the period to life
in a way that has never been seen before, in a film starring Leonardo
DiCaprio in the title role.
Nick Carraway, a Midwesterner now living on Long Island, finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. He is drawn into Gatsby's circle, becoming a witness to obsession and tragedy.

Synopsis
The Great Gatsby follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.
The Great Gatsby Delayed
Warner Bros said The Great Gatsby, Baz Luhrmann's 3D adaptation of the iconic Fitzgerald novel, has been delayed until 2013, reported BBC News.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the decision to move "The Great Gatsby" was done so Luhrmann could complete the 3D effects in a proper manner. The Times also reports that the film will have an all-star soundtrack, similar to Luhrmann's "Moulin Rouge!"

The Great Gatsby Review
The Great Gatsby seems to be enjoying a moment, what with the success of the New York production of Gatz, opening in London (described by America's leading theatre critic Ben Brantley as "The most remarkable achievement in theatre not only of this year but also of this decade").
"Based on what we've seen, Baz Luhrmann's incredible work is all we anticipated and so much more," the studio's president of domestic distribution, Dan Fellman, said.
"It truly brings Fitzgerald's American classic to life in a completely immersive, visually stunning and exciting way."

The movie was considered a surprise in Hollywood given the buzz about
DiCaprio as a possible contender for next year's best actor Oscar for
the iconic role of enigmatic Jay Gatsby and the rich look of the movie's trailer.

The Great Gatsby
The Hollywood studio Warner Bros has pushed the release of The Great Gatsby back to next American summer.
Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of the famous F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan, was due to be released on Christmas Day in the United States and January 10 in Australia.
That was seen as positioning the 3D movie, which was shot in Sydney, for Oscars contention.
